ICAR-CIARI organises training programme at Harminder Bay


A training programme on “Scientific interventions on livestock farming for livelihood security of Tribal farmers” was organized by ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute, Port Blair at Harminder Bay village, Little Andaman on 10-12th December. Dr. P.A. Bala, Dr. Arun Kumar De, Dr. P. Perumal, Dr. K. Muniswamy and Dr. Ashish Kumar, Senior Veterinary Officer, Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services imparted the training programme. There were 80 participants comprising mainly tribal youngsters from different parts of the village having different types of livestock. Mr. Andrew Mosses, Captain, and Mr. Festus, Secretary, Tribal Council, Herminder Bay graced the occasion. They encouraged the participants to interact with the scientists and draw maximum advantage out of the programme. Dr. Bala sumptuously explained the role of livestock farming for livelihood security of tribal farmers, while Dr. De was instrumental to focus light on Scientific pig rearing and Dr. Perumal intricately explained management of reproductive disorders of livestock. During the three days programme, farmers were given demonstration on deworming, feeding of mineral mixture and scientific feeding practices. Inputs such as pig feed (concentrate mixture), feed supplements and medicines were also distributed. Mr. Andrew Mosses and Mr. Festus thanked the village farmers for their active participation. The duo thanked the scientists for their efforts and urged to conduct such programmes frequently with much more inputs to distribute.
