SITUATION ANALYSIS

The farmer has studied upto higher secondary, unemployed and directly involved in agricultural activities. The farmer is having 1 ha hilly land. Arecanut is the dominant plantation crop followed by coconut and no intercrops were found. Vegetable is the major annual crop grown by the farmer. The farmer is having 4 cows, 6 goats & 40 backyard poultry birds.


TECHNOLOGY INTERVENTIONS

The integrated farming system model was established at farmer’s field. The shed was constructed for poultry, goat and vermicomposting. The farmer was given with 5 numbers of goat kids (4+1), 50 vanaraja birds and composting bag for residue recycling. The spices including seedlings of black pepper, clove & nutmeg introduced as intercrops in the existing plantations. Azolla was introduced in grow bags and used as supplementary feed for poultry and goat. The crop residues were collected and composting was demonstrated.


IMPACT / OUTCOME OF TECHNOLOGY ADOPTION

The farmer is getting regular income from livestock and vegetables besides meeting the family requirement.


INCOME GENERATION

The total income received through poultry, goats, dairy and vegetables is Rs. 1.5 lakhs/year as additional income after the intervention.


WAY FORWARD

Integration of more livestock components in the farm will increase the income of the farmer and ensure year round income.
