ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute has been granted a patent for an invention entitled METHOD OF DETERMINING THE SEX OF NON-RATITE BIRDS’ on 21.02.2024.
The invention is a method of determining the sex of non-ratite birds specifically poultry birds which conserves time and efforts for indicating the sex of poultry birds. The method includes DNA sample preparation with preservation of samples in different preservatives for one month and DNA template preparation by boiling in PBS, which does not depend on any specialized equipment. A team consists of Dr. Arun Kumar De, Dr. A Kundu, Dr. Jai Sunder, Dr. T. Sujatha, Dr. Perumal P, Dr. D. Bhattacharya and Dr. S.K. Zamir Ahmed developed the technology.
