ICAR-CIARI celebrates 76th Independence Day
ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute celebrated 76th Independence Day at its main campus, and Regional Station, Minicoy with fervor and gaiety. The flag hoisting ceremony was attended by approximately 350 Institute staff and family members. The 76th Independence Day celebrations started with the hoisting of the National Flag by Dr. Eaknath B. Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CIARI followed by singing of the National Anthem. In his address, Director highlighted the contributions made by the institute viz. commercialization of Dweep hangreens, Dweep micro, Dweep carp grower feed, Dweep tickure and filing of patent on extraction of seaweed liquid fertilizer (SWLF) and calcium alginate from brown seaweed (Sargassumwightii). He also emphasized about the research and academic linkages developed between different universities and new initiatives such as opening of Dweep sale point, augmentation of water resources at Garacharma Farm and revival of Minicoy research activities.
He further urged the scientists to work hard towards the best outcome and betterment of the farmer’s community.
As a part of the Har Gar Tiranga campaign of Govt. of India under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav the National Flag was hoisted at office and staff quarters from 13th to 15th August 2022. A mega Rally-Walk with the National Flag was conducted at Regional Station, Minicoy on 12/08/2022.
The programme was concluded by mass tree plantation drive in which 75 saplings of bamboo were planted in Garacharma campus to mark the celebration of 75th Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
