Andaman and Nicobar Island aquaculture is known for its huge demand for the freshwater fishes. The extensive method of fish farming and lack of knowledge on supplementary feeding are the main reason behind the lower freshwater fish production in the Islands. In order to encourage the feed-based aquaculture practices in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, fish feed production unit was established by ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-CIARI) with a production capacity of 80 to 100 kg feed per hour. Further, Dweep Carp Grower Feed was formulated with 22-28% protein and 4-6% lipid content which can be fed to the Indian Major Carps from fingerlings to marketable size. Proper feeding practices enable farmers to increase the stocking density, thereby increasing fish production per unit area.
