ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute, Port Blair (CIARI) has developed “Dweep HanGreens” a compact model for cultivation of Burmese coriander, a pricey culinary herb under urban setup of Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Being a hanging model, it occupies limited space and hence suitable for balconies, terraces, rooftops etc. It provides herbal produce for daily consumption apart from giving aesthetic appeal to the area and can be used as green curtains in government and private establishments, tourist spots, hotels etc. Based on the space availability and family requirement, the structure can be customized and hence, it is user-friendly.
CIARI has commercialized the technology on 18th September, 2021 by granting license to Mr. Nishant Naskar, an entrepreneur from Havelock Island in the presence of Dr. E.B. Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CIARI for making the technology available to the Island stakeholders. This technology was developed by Dr. Ajit Arun Waman and Dr. Pooja Bohra, Scientists of Horticulture and Forestry Division, ICAR-CIARI.
