ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair conducted training on “Cultivation of Fruits for nutritional security of tribal women farmers under scheduled tribe component at Harminder bay on 18th to 19th August, 2022. A total of 35 women farmers from 15 tuhets were participated in the programme. Dr. Pooja Bohra and Dr. Ajit Arun Waman, Scientists and organisers of the programme sensitized about the role of nutrients and various fruit sources in maintaining health, cultivation practices for raising various perennial fruit crops were also taught to the participants. The training was followed by demonstration of fruit saplings in the farmers field. Inputs such as 250 saplings of lime, passion fruit, bilimbi , tejpat and UV- stabilized film (350 m2) was provided for constructed of polyhouse as a commonly asset to the tribal council. Mr. Andrew Moses, First Headman, Mr. Yoseph, Second Headman and Mr. Festus, Secretary, Tribal Council appreciated the ICAR-CIARI for providing the inputs for the betterment of tribal farming community. The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. E. B. Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CIARI.
