ICAR-CIARI and KVK Nimbudera conducted capacity Building on goat farming


Division of Animal Sciences, ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair, along with ICAR-KVK, Nimbudera, conducted capacity-building programmes on goat farming under the AICRP on Goat Improvement at Nimbudera and Baratang from March 1 to 2, 2024. A total of 70 farmers attended the programme.Dr. P. Perumal, senior scientist, and Dr. R.R. Alyethodi, scientist and co-PI of the AICRP goat improvement project, briefed about the scientific interventions and technologies for improving the productivity of the Andamani goat. Various aspects of goat rearing, viz., feeds and feeding of goats, health management of goats, and care and management of kids, were detailed. The farmers also interacted with the resource persons on various field problems. Later, the scientific team demonstrated the use of the FAMACHA card for the detection of anaemia in goats and the use of Dweep tickure, a herbal acaricide, for the control of tick infestation. Farmers were also distributed with deworming and mineral mixtures.The overall programme was coordinated by Dr. P. Perumal, Dr. R. Alyethodi, and E Er. Manoj Kumar under the supervision of Dr. Jai Sunder, Head, Animal Science Division, and Dr. E.B. Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair.
