ICAR- KVK, N&M Andaman, organized a special program celebrating “World Soil Day 2024” on 5th December, 2024 at PM Shri Senior Secondary School, Swadeshnagar. The program was inaugurated by the Principal of PM Shri Sr. Secondary School, Sh. Salem Kerketta, who emphasized the need for collective efforts to maintain soil health. He further stressed on the importance of educating young minds about soil preservation, stating, soil is the foundation of life, engaging the youth in such initiatives ensures a sustainable future.
Mr. Rakesh Dawar, SMS (Agronomy), shared insights on sustainable agricultural practices and encouraged the adoption of organic farming techniques. He elaborated on the benefits of maintaining soil fertility and reducing chemical inputs, urging the students to contribute actively to this global cause.
Mr. Yatharth Sharma, SMS (Home Science) engaged the participants with an interactive session on innovative ways to prevent soil degradation, stressing the role of community involvement in combating soil erosion and pollution.
The program was organized under the overall guidance of Dr. Eaknath B. Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CIARI, Sri Vijayapuram. A total of 60 students and teaching staff participated in the programme.
