ICAR-CIARI organized a 3 days training programme under PMFME on “Value added fishery products” in collaboration with Department of Industries, Andaman & Nicobar Administration. On the Inaugural day, Director ICAR-CIARI, Dr. E B Chakurkar, Special Secretary Industries, Shri. Hari Kallikatt-IAS and Director (I/c), Department of Industries, Andaman & Nicobar Administration Shri. Anthony James, addressed the gathering. At the outset Dr. S.K Zamir Ahmed, nodal officer PMFME, ICAR-CIARI, welcomed the gathering. Course Director Ms. Deepitha. R.P, Scientist Fish Process Technology, briefed about the training programme and Director CIARI advised the trainees to capture maximum benefit from the programme. The three days training programme covered different aspects of Fish Processing and value addition. Resource persons from ICAR-CIARI, Department of Industries, Fisheries department- Andaman and Nicobar Administration and NABARD interacted with the trainees on various aspects of Value addition, Schemes under PMMSY, different Bank schemes available for value addition and details of PMFME schemes. Trainees were exposed to both theory and practical classes and hands on training on different product preparations like fish pickle, surimi and dry fish were demonstrated to the trainees. On the last day of the training Smti, Vedita Reddy, IAS-Secretary industries interacted with the trainees regarding their experience during the 3 days period. Further, she congratulated all the trainees for the successful completion of the programme and told them to take up fishery based value added products and their popularisation in the Islands. A total of 33 participants took part in the training programme.
