KVK conducted Skilled development programme on value addition in jackfruit


ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (CIARI), South Andaman conducted a five days skilled development training programme on “Value addition in Jackfruit” under 100 days action plan from 22 to 26 July 2024 at KVK, South Andaman. The training programme was inaugurated by Dr. Nagesh Ram, Principal, Rajiv Gandhi Cooperative Training Centrein the presence of Dr. Y. Ramakrishna, Pr. Scientist & Head, KVK, Port Blair. Dr Nagesh Ram applauded KVK for taking local under-utilized fruit that is found in excess in the Islands and preparing value added products from it. Dr Y. Ramakrishna, motivated the participants to take up entrepreneur activities and generate employment not only for themselves but also for their neighbours. Dr. Pooja Kapoor, SMS (Home Science) briefed the gathering about ways of enhancing income by the process of value addition in local fruits and vegetables. Shri Mohit, SMS (Plant Pathology) delivered a lecture on “Diseases in Jackfruit and ways of prevention by using biopesticides”. The trainees were provided hands on training for preparation of Jackfruit chips, pickle and jam. Training also highted about packaging practices, labelling and marketing strategies. A total of 20 women participated and benefitted from the training programme. The training programme was conducted under the supervision and guidance Dr. Eaknath B. Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair.
