ICAR-CIARI licenses technology on Sex determination kit for non-ratite birds

ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute, Port Blair inked a MoU with a GCC BIOTECH INDIA PVT LTD., for licensing of “Sex determination kit for non-ratite birds” on July 11, 2024. Dr. E.B. Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CIARI and Dr. Raja Majumdar, MD, GCC BIOTECH INDIA PVT LTD signed the MoU on 11.07.2024.

This patented technology is a direct Polymerized Chain Reaction based molecular method of sex determination in any non-ratite birds at day-old stage with 100% sensitivity and specificity and can be applied for sex determination of colored birds where manual determination is very erroneous. This non-invasive method requires only feather samples. The scientific team comprises of Dr. Arun Kumar De, Dr. Debasis Bhattacharya, Dr. T. Sujatha, Dr. Perumal P., Dr. Jai Sunder, Dr. A. Kundu, Dr. S. K. Zamir Ahmed and Dr. E. B. Chakurkar developed this technology.
