The ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, South Andaman, organized a National campaign under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav on “Bharatiya Prakritik Krishi Paddhati” under Kisan Bhagedari Prathamikta humare on 26th April 2022 by inviting farmers, farm women and Public representatives. The objective of the programme was to create awareness about need and importance of Natural Farming along with discussion on Millets, oilseeds and bio fortified crops. Dr.Eaknath B. Chakurkar, Director CIARI, graced the occasion as chief guest and Smt. Tapashi Saha, Pradhan, Chouldhari was the guest of honour. Speaking on the occasion Dr Eaknath B. Chakurkar, highlighted the ways in which farmer’s can play their role and contribute in strengthening agriculture in our country. He also discussed about the principles and practices of Natural farming. Smt. Tapashi Saha motivated the farmers to take up Natural farming in their respective farms to provide a healthy future to the next generation. Speaking on the occasion Dr. Y. Ramakrishna, Pr. Scientist & Head, KVK in his key note address briefed about the activities of KVK and the ways in which farmers of the Island can adopt Natural farming. The participants were sensitized regarding consumption of millets in their daily diet for healthy living and were provided with millet- based products.A display of various raw millets along with prepared recipes were done for the benefit of the farming community. Dr. B.K Nanda, Dr. Bommayasamy, Dr.Pooja Kapoor, Shri Tanmai Paul and Dr. Nitu Sindhu delivered lecture in various aspects relevant to the occasion. Earlier Dr. Y. Ramakrishna welcomed the gathering and Dr. B.K. Nanda proposed vote of thanks. A total of seventy eighty farmers and farmwomen participated in the programme.
