Andaman pig is an indigenous pig germplasm of Andaman group of islands. They are sturdy and medium in size and black (mostly) or rusty gray in colour. Marked bristle crest (mane) on the back of the pig extending from mid head/ shoulder to base of the tail is a characteristic feature. They attain body weight (mean ± SEM) of 73.54±1.08 kg for male and 66.19±0.98 kg for female at 1 year of age. Height ranges from 65 to 89 cm. Body lengths (mean ± SEM) for male and female are 115.80±2.05 cm and 104.60±1.28 cm respectively. Snout is short to medium with slight concave type. Ears are short and erected upwards (no hanging ears). They are fast runners and evolved to thrive under low-input management system of Andaman group of islands.
