Andaman Local Goat (ALG) is medium to short statureb with colour combination of black, brown and white.These goats were imported from Bengal and adjacent area in different phases of habitation and rehabilitation by the Britishers. Over the years, they have adapted in the tropical humid climate of Island and are now popularly known as Andaman Local Goat. They are usually reared by the settlers under extensive/semi intensive system. Black coloured goats are predominate followed by brownand white. They are locally called as Andaman Local.They are short to medium sized leg with compact body. These goats are mainly distributed in the Andaman group of islands. They are preferred for its excellent chevon quality and black colour is mostly preferred by the people for religious functions. Ears are flat and leaf-like, mediumsized and drooping. Both sexes have small horns, curved upward and backward. Tail is medium in length and curved upward. Adult body weight: Male: 16 kg; Female: 15 kg
