Seminar on Floral Diversity of A & N Islands delivered by Dr. Lal Ji Singh


With an objective to inculcate Scientific temperament among the students and sensitize the scientific fraternity, a seminar lecture was delivered on 25.11.2022, by Dr. Lal Ji Singh, Joint Director (Scientists’') & Head, Botanical Survey of India (BSI), Andaman & Nicobar Regional Centre, Port Blair on the topic “Floral Diversity of Andaman & Nicobar Islands” under the aegis of Agricultural Education Day at Garacharma Research Complex which also had a virtual link. Through his presentation he educated the participants on the role of BSI, distribution of unique floral wealth diversity of A & N and stressed upon the strength, threats and way forward for its conservation.


At the outset, Dr. S.K. Zamir Ahmed, Principal Scientist & Nodal officer of the programme, briefed about the concept behind the conduct of seminar by the learned Scientist speaker of the day. Dr. Jaya Kumaravaradan Scientist & Organising Secretary gave brief introduction about the speaker. Dr. Debasis Bhattacharya Director I/c, ICAR – CIARI appreciated the efforts of the team in conducting important seminar benefitting the students & scientists. The program concluded with vote of thanks by Shri. D Karunakaran, Scientist & Organising Secretary.


More than 300 school students from South Andaman representing Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Port Mout, Khalsa Public School, Kamaraj English Medium School, Kendra Vidyalaya 1, St.Mary’s and Govt. Boys Senior Secondary, beside the scientists from ICAR institute, officials of local department and mainland also attended.


The program was coordinated by the support team of AKMU & SSS comprising of Smt. Asma Bibi, Technical Assistant, Shri. Ali Akbar, Technician, Shri Saravanan, Shri Suresh, and Shri Amit Roy.
