Painting competition held at CIARI to commemorate Agricultural Education Day


Under the aegis of Agricultural Education Day-2022, CIARI has conducted a painting competition on 18th November for school students on the topic “Innovation to increase the agricultural production in the Islands”. Around 80 students along with 8 teachers from 14 Schools viz. Ummat Public School, Kamraj English Medium School, Khalsa Public School, Don Bosco School, GSSS Port Mout, St. Mary’s School, Saraswathi Shishu Mandir, Mahatma Gandhi International School, Navy Children School, Vivekanada Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kendriya Vidyalaya-1, Girls Sr. Secondary school Garacharma and Rabindra Bangla Vidyalaya , Govt. Boys Sr. Secondary School participated.


Dr. P. A Bala and Shri K. Muniswamy, Sr. Scientists along with Smt. Asma Bibi, Technical Assistant, Shri Abbubaker, Senior Technician, Shri Ali Akbar, Technician and Shri Saravanan, SSS coordinated the event.


In continuation, quiz competition will be held on 21st November for school students. On 25th November, Dr. Lal Ji Singh, Joint Director & Head, Botanical Survey of India, Andaman & Nicobar Regional Centre will deliver a Seminar Lecture on “Floral diversity of Andaman & Nicobar Islands”. On 28th November, the Garacharma Campus of CIARI is open for the school students to visit its R&D activities. In addition, students can submit a Concept Paper on “Innovative ideas for agricultural development in the Islands” by 30th November. The highlight of this fortnightly programme is the Scientist-Student Interaction, wherein a team of Scientists will visit the schools to create awareness among the students about the “Career opportunities in agriculture and allied sectors” and to inculcate scientific temperament.
